On Monday night the winner of Nashville Star was chosen. The two finalists were electrician Gabe Garcia and a mother of five boys Melissa Lawson.
Host Billy Ray Cyrus announced that Lawson, 32, was the winner. She was given a new red Toyota Tundra pick-up truck as well as a recording contract. “America, your new Nashville Star is Melissa Lawson!” Cyrus told the crowd as the singer’s family rushed on stage.
Lawson then debuted her first single ‘What If It All Goes Right.’ The song will be on country radio stations beginning Tuesday and Lawson will perform it at the Olympics on August 12.
After the show, Lawson told People magazine that she plans to give her new truck to her husband Rick. “He has been driving a crummy little truck for so long so we could buy a car for me that was big enough to haul all the boys around. He deserves this truck!” she said.
