Nadal Wins First U.S. Open

Spanish Tennis Great Makes History

Rafael Nadal made tennis history on Monday night by becoming only the seventh man ever to win a career Grand Slam, meaning that he won each of the four major tennis championships at least once in his career. The twenty-four-year-old Spanish tennis great fell to the floor in utter joy after beating Novak Djokovic 6-4, 5-7, 6-4, 6-2 in what was, overall, a very exciting match. Nadal, who is ranked number 1 in the world, now has a total of 9 Grand Slam titles to his name, including 5 French Open titles. "For the first time in my career, I played a very, very good match in this tournament," said Nadal, who had never reached the U.S. Open Finals before. "That's my feeling, no? I played my best match in the U.S. Open at the most important moment." Djokovic, who delivered a very talented and respectable performance, said, "[Nadal] has the capabilities already now to become the best player ever. I think [Nadal is] playing the best tennis that I've ever seen him play on hard courts. He has improved his serve drastically -- the speed, the accuracy. And, of course, his baseline [game] is as good as ever." (Sources: ESPN.com)
