The White House Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) have announced a national day where prescription drugs can be "Taken Back" no questions asked. “Take-Back Day” is on Saturday, September 25th from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. local time. Collections sites can be found by logging onto the DEA website.
Narconon Freedom Center, a non-profit drug rehabilitation organization, fully supports “Take-Back Day”. Narconon Freedom Center has seen the ever increasing rise in prescription drug addiction since the FDA lowered the rules for pharmaceutical companies to advertise on TV and other media prescription drugs. As profits of the pharmaceutical companies have soared, so has prescription drug addiction.
Narconon Freedom Center has noticed a rise in the number of prescription drug addicts wanting to get help in coming off these often highly addictive substances. Fortunately, the Narconon Program, as delivered at Narconon Freedom Center, has been proven to effectively handle prescription drug addiction. Prescription drugs like all drugs are poisons to the body and are handled much in the same manner.
The ONDCP recognizes prescription addiction as the fastest growing drug problem in the U.S. The easy availability of prescription drugs makes this possible. By recognizing “Take-Back Day”, partially used prescription drugs can be properly disposed of without creating more addiction.
Narconon has the long-term goal of drug addiction being eliminated entirely through community education and drug rehabilitation programs. Narconon Freedom Center recognizes “Take-Back Day” being yet another way to help to eliminate drug addiction in our communities.
By promoting “Take-Back Day,” addictive and otherwise harmful prescription drugs are taken out of circulation as they should be. Prescriptions are intended solely for the person for whom they are prescribed and should be administered under close medical care. Although there are many cases on record of individuals becoming addicted to a doctor's prescription, these same drugs falling into the hands of someone for whom they weren't prescribed will also create an even greater problem in society.
Narconon Freedom Center has seen many cases in which unused prescriptions have fallen into the hands of a teen or other family member, who then becomes addicted. Many of today's prescription painkillers are extremely addictive. The result can be starting up a teen on the road to addiction.
“Take-Back Day” is a way for us to lessen the potential of addiction to prescription drugs. Narconon Freedom Center fully supports this effort. If you know of someone that has already become addicted and needs immediate help, contact Narconon Freedom Center at 888-218-9478.
