An Indiana prison guard was arrested Tuesday for helping a female inmate escape on Monday. Authorities believe Scott A. Spitler helped inmate Sarah Pender escape from the Rockville Correctional Facility by hiding her in a vehicle and driving her outside the complex.
Pender, 29, remained at large Tuesday but an “intensive investigation” is underway to find her. It is believed that “an associate” picked her up after Spitzer helped her escape.
Pender and Richard Hull Jr. were convicted in the 2000 murder of two of their former roommates. Pender was sentenced to 110 years in prison while Hull was sentenced to 75 years.
Spitler faces charges of assisting a criminal, official misconduct, sexual misconduct and trafficking with an inmate.
