France Calls Rwanda’s Claims of Genocide “Unacceptable”

France responded to an independent Rwandan commission report that claimed the country played an active role in the 1994 genocide that resulted in the deaths of more than 800,000 minority Tutsis and moderate Hutus, calling the allegations “unacceptable” and further denying any part in slaughter.

In the report the Rwandan commission claimed a number of French government and military figures helped supply and train Hutu militants who then went on to kill nearly one million Rwandans in 100 days.

According to a French foreign ministry spokesman “This report contains unacceptable accusations made against French political and military officials.”

Despite France’s denials Rwanda holds firm to their findings and has expressed hope that those named would be brought up on war crimes.
