Morgan Freeman Recovers from Car Accident, Begins Divorce Proceedings

Morgan Freeman is recovering from his sudden car accident, but will now begin divorce proceedings, according to reports on Wednesday.

Freeman, 71, and his wife of 24 years, Myrna Colley-Lee, 68, are planning to divorce, according to US Weekly. Freeman and Lee are "involved in a divorce action," said Freeman's business partner Bill Luckett, who co-owns a blues club in Clarksdale, Mississippi, with Freeman called Ground Zero.

Luckett explained that "for legal and practical purposes, [Freeman and Colley-Lee] have been separated since December of 2007."

According to reports, Colley-Lee has officially filed for divorce on Wednesday despite Freeman's recovery.

Freeman was injured in the wreck on a rural Mississippi highway while driving a car belonging to Demaris Meyer, 48, who has been described as a mutual friend of Freeman and his wife. He suffered a broken arm, broken elbow and shoulder damage in the accident while Meyer was not seriously injured.

Luckett said Freeman would require several months to recover from the injuries but that Meyer was "in better condition than Morgan." Police have said there is no indication that alcohol or drugs were involved in the crash.
