Eiffel Tower Bomb Threat a Hoax

Paris media outlets say Tuesday’s bomb threat at the Eiffel Tower was a hoax. The company that manages the landmark received the threat via phone around 8:20 p.m.

About 2,000 people were evacuated from the Eiffel Tower and Champ de Mars park. Several apartment buildings and businesses were also evacuated. Police and sniffer dogs searched the area but did not find an explosive device.

The Eiffel Tower was built in 1889 and is 1,063 feet tall. It weighs 10,100 tons.
