Strong Earthquake Strikes Nayarit, Mexico

A strong earthquake shook the Islas Marias region of the Mexican state of Nayarit Tuesday afternoon. The 5.9 magnitude earthquake struck off shore about 70 miles west-northwest of Puerto Vallarta at a depth of 22.4 miles.

The temblor, which struck at 5:32 p.m., was felt as far away as Mazatlan in the state of Sinaloa. Authorities say there were no damages or injuries reported.

Earlier in the day, a 5.4 magnitude earthquake hit near the border of Arizona and Mexico. The U.S. Geological Survey reported the quake struck in Baja California, Mexico about 20 miles from Guadalupe Victoria. There were no damages or injuries.
