Landmine in Turkey Kills 9, PKK Denies Involvement

A landmine in the Turkish province of Hakkari killed 9 people and injured 4 others. The mine exploded after a minibus drove over it.

After Turkey Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan vowed to retaliate, the Kurdistan Workers Party, a separatist movement known as the PKK, denied involvement in the explosion. The PKK said their decision to call a cease-fire for the Muslim month of Ramadan will “remain the same unless a new serious situation emerges.” The cease-fire ends September 20.

The PKK say they are fighting for more cultural freedoms.
