A Washington woman who claimed a woman walked up to her outside a Starbucks and threw a cup of acid in her face has admitted she lied about the attack. Police say Bethany Storro, 28, admits she splashed the liquid in her face.
Vancouver police say prosecutors will decide if Storro will be charged with any crimes. Officers searched her home Thursday and removed several items. The liquid Storro used to injure herself was not among the items.
Storro originally claimed she was outside a Vancouver Starbucks around 7:15 p.m. on August 30 when an African American woman with her hair pulled into a ponytail approached her with a cup and asked, “Hey pretty girl, do you want to drink this?” Storro alleged the woman threw the liquid in her face and ran away.
Police have not revealed the motive behind Storro’s actions. “She is extremely upset. She is very remorseful. In many ways it got bigger than she expected,” says police Commander Marla Schuman.
Storro underwent surgery on her injuries.
