The death of comedian Bernie Mac on Saturday sent shockwaves through Hollywood as several of Mac’s close friends struggled to make sense of the tragedy.
George Clooney, who starred with Mac in “Ocean’s Eleven,” “Ocean’s Twelve,” and “Ocean’s Thirteen,” said “the world just got a little less funny” when asked to comment on Mac’s death.
Close friend Carl Reiner admitted he was “in utter shock” after hearing the news. A stunned Reiner said of Mac, “He was just so alive. I can’t believe he is gone.”
Bernie Mac died on Saturday of complications from pneumonia. He had been hospitalized earlier this week and was thought to be recovering nicely.
Samuel L. Jackson expressed gratitude for the time he knew Mac saying, “I feel blessed to have shared years of friendship with Bernie Mac.” He went on to say, “My sincere prayer is that his family will be comforted by the warmth of love from all of us who knew and respected this man.”
Mac left behind his wife of more than 30 years, Rhonda, as well as a daughter and granddaughter.
