2008 Beijing Olympics Results: United States and China atop Medal Count after Sunday
The 2008 Beijing Olympics are in full swing and host country China has proven to be more than just a gracious host, they’ve also assembled a formidable team of competitors who have snagged the most gold medals with six and are tied atop the overall count with the United States with eight.
China’s gold medals have been won by Women's Synchronised 3m Springboard diving competitors Guo Jingjing, Wu Minxia; women’s judo champ Xian Dongmei; men’s 10m air pistol champ Pang Wei; Guo Wenjun in the women’s 10m air pistol competition; men’s 56 kg weightlifting champ Long Qingquan; and women’s 48 kg weightlifting champ Chen Xiexia.
South Korea has the second most gold medals with three as Sung Hyun Park, Sung Jin Lee and Mi Jin Yun captured the women’s team archery top spot; Choi Minho won the men’s 60 kg judo; and Park Taehwan won the men’s 400 freestyle swimming. South Korea has five overall medals, three shy of China and the United States.
The U.S. has captured two gold medals as Mariel Zagunis won the women’s individual saber in fencing and Michael Phelps won the 400m Individual Medley in swimming.
