Paul and Jason Ivy of Jacksonville Rock Band Yankee Slickers Interviewed with Rebecca Firth of YourFindit

Yankee Slickers, a blues, jam and rock band based in Jacksonville, Florida, took some time to talk about the band and it’s music with YourFindit’s Rebecca Firth in an exclusive audio interview.  Founded by brothers Jason and Paul Ivy, the band is excited about the upcoming release of their debut album and plans to continue playing and developing their music on a full time scale.

After a lifetime of working on music independently and together, brothers Paul and Jason Ivy joined together to create the project that is Yankee Slickers.  They started the band three years ago, and despite recent lineup changes and adjustments, the band plays a hearty schedule of gigs and will celebrate the release of their first album on August 29 at Mojos Kitchen BBQ and Blues Bar.

The music is “good ol’ rock and roll with a little southern thrown in it.”  Although the Slickers categorizes their music as just rock, the Ivy’s noted that their music is often described as southern rock, most likely stemming from a heavy Lynard Skynard influence.  The band’s name itself was inspired by a Skynard lyric from the song “’Workin’ For MCA.”  The name was chosen as a “play on words,” in jest of the band’s personality which is the complete opposite of “mister yankee slicker” mentioned in the song.

The Yankee Slickers will celebrate the release of their debut album on Friday, August 29 at Mojo’s Kitchen BBQ and Blues Bar in Jacksonville, Florida.  The show starts at 9:00 pm.
