Evan Melgaard of The Reigns Speaks with Rebecca Firth of YourFindit About His Music

The Reigns, based in Knoxville, Tennessee is a rock, blues and country band fronted by Evan Melgaard, and accompanied by Brian (bass) and Ryan (drums).  After four years of service in the United States Air Force, Melgaard went from the strict regimen of the US military to the chaos of the music industry resulting in the formation of The Reigns.  In an exclusive interview with YourFindit, Melgaard details the driving force behind the band’s music and the inspiration that started it all.

Tired of the rules and regulations of the air force, Melgaard left the military and went head first into a musical career.  With a healthy schedule of gigs in the Knoxville area, Melgaard is devoted to his band on a full time basis.  Each show has a set list of fifty songs, the majority of which are covers.  About ten to twelve percent of the songs played are Reigns originals, although Melgaard would like to see that number go up.

Inspired by Jimmy Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Eric Clapton, The Reigns plays a mix of rock, country and blues songs.  The band’s covers are chosen to draw the crowds into Knoxville’s many bars and clubs.  While the music scene in the area is small, Melgaard feels that he has as much of a chance at being successful in Knoxville as he would have in a larger music scene.

The Reigns is currently seeking investors for the band’s debut album.  Melgaard feels prepared for the project musically, but wants to be sure he has the financial backing to record the album properly.  In the mean time, The Reigns will continue to play at Knoxville venues on a regular basis.  For all booking inquiries, contact Evan Melgaard at evanmelgaard@yahoo.com.
