"The Dark Knight" Tops Weekend Box Office for Fourth Straight Week

The Dark Knight, the latest Batman blockbuster, has topped the weekend box office for the fourth straight week, raking in $26 million.

During the last month, The Dark Knight has broken almost every box office record. The movie became the fastest movie to reach $200 million, $300 million and $400 million. The Dark Knight opened with $158 million, the highest opening weekend ever.

However, its top three stars have experienced personal issues since the movie's release. Christian Bale, who plays Bruce Wayne/Batman, was arrested last month on accusation of domestic abuse. Morgan Freeman, who plays Lucius Fox, was injured in a car accident last Sunday. Later in the week, Freeman and wife Myrna Colley-Lee had their divorce finalized.

Also last week, the investigation of the death of Heath Ledger, who played The Joker, was closed. Ledger died in January of an accidental drug overdose.

Pineapple Express, which stars Seth Rogan and James Franco, was second with $22.4 million. The Judd Apatow-comedy raked in $40.5 million since its opening last Wednesday.

Also debuting Wednesday was The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2, which grossed $10.8 million for fourth place and $19.7 million cumulative since its opening.

The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor was third place with $16.1 million, totaling $70.7 million. In fifth was Step Brothers, which earned $8.9 million this past weekend and $80.9 mil overall.
