EA Sports' Madden NFL 09 Video Game To Be Released Tuesday

Madden NFL 09, the latest edition of the famed Madden video game franchise, will be released Tuesday as the franchise celebrates its 20th anniversary.

Madden NFL 09 will be released on Nintendo Wii, Nintendo DS, Playstation 2 (PS2), Playstation 3 (PS3), Playstation Portable (PSP), XBox and XBox 360.

There are several different features depending on the video console. On Wii, Madden 09 will have a new neighborhood-style 5-on-5 setting. On XBox 360 and PS3, the game offer 20 new features, including online leagues, rivalry games and returning missed field goals.

On XBox and PS2, there is a new franchise scoring system and an enhanced fantasy football challenge. On PSP, there are new play-calling options and player indicators.

Brett Favre is on the cover of Madden NFL 09, but he is wearing a Green Bay Packers. However, when people buy the game on Tuesday, there will be inlets of Favre in his New York Jets uniform for them to replace the cover.

In addition to the gameplay, Madden games offer a good analysis for NFL players through their player ratings. Their player ratings are not just useful for the game, but also for fans of fantasy football.

According to IGN, several players received the highest player rating of 99: Patriots QB Tom Brady and WR Randy Moss, Colts QB Peyton Manning and SS Bob Sanders, Chargers RB LaDainian Tomlinson and TE Antonio Gates.

Cowboys WR Terrell Owens, Ravens SS Ed Reed, Dolphins DE Jason Taylor, Panthers WR Steve Smith, Bears LB Brian Urlacher, Vikings DT Pat Williams and LG Steve Hutchinson, Titans DT Albert Haynesworth and Steelers SS Troy Polamalu all received ratings of 98, according to IGN. Taylor is still on the Dolphins roster on Madden despite being traded to the Redskins.

Bears kick returner Devin Hester remains the only player in Madden history who has received a perfect 100 in any category, receiving his in speed. He has a 99 in acceleration as well.

As far as team ratings, the Patriots have the highest rating, receiving a 97. The Cowboys follow with a 96 rating, while the Chargers and Colts both received 95 ratings.
