Senior al-Qaeda Leader Killed in Clashes with Pakistani Forces

Senior al-Qaeda leader Abu Saeed al-Masri has reportedly been killed by Pakistani forces who were engaged with a group of militants along the Pakistan-Afghan border.

Al-Masri’s death marks the second blow to al-Qaeda’s senior leadership in a month as chemical and biological weapons expert Mustafa Abu-al-Yazid was killed by Pakistani troops in July.

According to the September 11 Commission al-Masri was believed to be the “chief financial manager” of al-Qaeda’s Afghanistan operations.
