Three women working for an international aid organization in Afghanistan were found shot to death near the capital city of Kabul.

One of the drivers was killed while a second sustained was seriously injured in the shooting.

Southern provinces in Afghanistan have become increasingly dangerous for aid workers as stability in those regions has continued to deteriorate. According to reports the women killed on Wednesday were traveling in a two-vehicle convoy from the southeast region of Gardez to Kabul when they were attacked.

George Rupp, IRC president, said of the murders, “Words are inadequate to express our sympathy for the families and loved ones of the victims and our devoted team of humanitarian aid workers in Afghanistan.”
