The world’s tallest woman, Sandy Allen, died Wednesday morning at a nursing home in Shelbyville, Indiana after spending the past several months battling various health issues. Allen was 53.
Sandy Allen was listed at 7-foot-7 and held the title of world’s tallest woman since the mid 1970s.
Allen’s abnormal height was attributed to a tumor in her pituitary gland that caused an uncontrollable release of growth hormones.
The past few years were difficult for Allen. She was forced to use a wheelchair after her mobility became limited following the progression of her diabetes and blood infections. She had experienced breathing troubles and kidney failure as well.
