Bill Gwatney, the Chairman of the Arkansas Democratic Party, has died after being shot numerous times by a gunman who walked into the Party’s headquarters in Little Rock and opened fire on the leader. Gwatney was 49.
Democratic Party chairman Howard Dean called the death of Gwatney a “senseless tragedy.”
Gwatney was in his office Wednesday afternoon when the gunman brushed aside a secretary and confronted the chairman, firing at last three shots at close range. Gwatney was rushed to a local hospital but died from his injuries.
Police shot and killed the gunman.
