Jail Admits Special Treatment for Hilton

Celebutante Paris Hilton’s recent arrest in Las Vegas on drug charges is shining a light on the problem police face when famous faces find themselves behind bars.

How much time would you spend in jail if you were arrested in Las Vegas on drug charges? Considerably more time than Paris Hilton, it seems. After the heiress’ most recent arrest, local police officials have admitted that they processed Hilton as quickly as possible in an attempt to avoid disruptions with the staff and other inmates.

Hilton was released from jail three hours after arriving, a much quicker turnaround than the average arrestee. Hilton was arrested along with her boyfriend, Las Vegas nightclub operator Cy Waits, when Waits’ black SUV was stopped by police. The couple was initially pulled over because authorities say they reportedly smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle.

Why They Shortened Her Sentence

Before she even reached the local jail, Hilton was causing a stir. Onlookers gathered to take photos of the troubled reality star during the traffic stop. Worried that the scene would repeat itself inside the jail, police hurried Hilton through the booking process.

"Yeah, she was treated differently so I don't have a disruption of my process here at the county jail," Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Deputy Chief Jim Dixon admitted to the Las Vegas Review-Journal. "When you bring somebody in like that, everybody comes over and tries to look at them. I'd have officers attempting to keep inmates away from her. I'd have disruptions."

Hilton Claims Purse with Cocaine Isn’t Hers

Hilton has insisted that the purse she was carrying when she was arrested – a purse which allegedly contained the cocaine – didn’t belong to her. That argument isn’t likely to help her case, though. Authorities say it doesn’t matter if the purse belonged to Hilton, only that it was in her possession when the narcotics were found.

While some are crying “foul”  at Hilton’s special treatment, the problem of celebs behind bars continues to wreak havoc for jail officials and the other inmates. Visitation, housing and other issues arise, proving there are no easy answers.
