Red Sox' Jason Varitek and Wife Karen File for Divorce

Boston Red Sox catcher Jason Varitek and wife Karen Varitek have filed for divorce, according to reports on Thursday.

The Varitek couple filed for divorce on July 28 in Gwinnett County, a county in suburban Atlanta, Georgia where they live in the offseason. They were married for 11 years.

Varitek, the Red Sox captain, and his wife Karen, formerly Karen Mullinax, have three daughters together: Rose (born January 14, 2000), Kendall Anne (born September 30, 2001) and Caroline Morgan (born June 13, 2005).

The reports do not offer extensive information on the filing. Jason and Karen Varitek have yet to discuss their divorce publicly.

Varitek is in the final year of a four-year, $40-million contract he signed after the Red Sox won the World Series in 2004. He will be a free agent at the end of this season. He is currently hitting just .216.
