Tropical Storm Fay Causing Mass Evacuations in Cuba

Cuba has braced itself for the impending arrival Tropical Storm Fay, evacuating residents from the eastern and central areas of the island following the storms deadly pass over Hispaniola.

Mass flooding in the Dominican Republic led to at least four deaths while Haiti has reported one dead from Fay.

Residents in low-lying areas of Cuba have been evacuated and boats have been pulled from the water. While Cuba braces for the power of Fay they have concerned themselves more with the effects of the heavy rain and have concentrated on moving residents from flood-prone areas.

At 2:00 p.m. ET Tropical Storm Fay was just 135 miles west of Cuba with an expected landfall between Sunday night and Monday morning. Florida has already declared a state of emergency as Fay sits 285 miles south of Key West and the National Hurricane Center has warned Fay could become a hurricane by the time it hits U.S. soil.
