At least 17 train cars in Sao Paulo, Brazil were damaged by angry passengers on Tuesday, an operations director of Sao Paulo Metro revealed Wednesday. The passengers were apparently angry that some trains had stopped moving so they began smashing windows in the cars.
Operations director Conrado Grava de Souza said the slow service was caused by a train that had to stop after one of its doors malfunctioned. Impatient passengers delayed the train even more after using emergency buttons to get off and walk on the tracks. That caused other trains to stop, according to Souza.
The situation was eventually remedied and the 17 damaged trains were back to working later in the day.
