Paris Hilton Detained In Japan
Not So Hot!
Notorious socialite and heiress Paris Hilton will be detained for a second day in Japan’s Narita International Airport after she pleaded guilty to a cocaine possession and obstructing a policeman in Las Vegas a day before arriving in Japan. Hilton was handed down a 12-month suspended jail term for the misdemeanor, the second conviction for the party-loving socialite.
The 29-year-old is on the first leg of a planned Asian tour to promote her fragrance and fashion lines but the whole tour may be on the rocks given the scrutiny of her entry into Japan. Malaysia and Indonesia were also on her tour schedule but both countries have very strict anti-drug laws so she may not be allowed entry due to her misdemeanor charge.
Hilton is currently waiting the result of her visa entry status at an airport hotel and is unavailable for comment. Officials at the US embassy in Tokyo are also unavailable for comment.
Officials in Japan say they are still determining whether Hilton will be allowed into the country, but maintain that they are within their rights to detain individuals convicted on drug-related offences.
Hilton has already had to cancel one appearance scheduled for Wednesday in Tokyo and may be heading back to the US if she is denied entry.
Hilton is contractually bound to promote her products in the region and her representative Dawn Miller stated that the heiress was “disappointed” by the events in Japan but will try hard to fulfill her obligations and to not “let down” her fans in Asia.
