Key West Braces for Tropical Storm Fay, Could be Hurricane Fay by Landfall

Tropical Storm Fay could quickly become Hurricane Fay as the massive storm passes through the Florida Straits with southwestern Florida in its sight.

Key West is already being battered by strong winds and heavy rain but many who were in the area over the past few days have been evacuated ahead of Fay’s arrival, expected later on Monday. Meteorologists have predicted anywhere from 4 to 10 inches of rain and threats of flooding have become a major concern for the Florida Keys.

As the day progresses the storm is expected to slow and this could help Fay gain better organization and greater strength. All along the Florida’s western coast a hurricane warning has been in place while the eastern coast of Florida is under a Tropical Storm warning.

Tropical Storm Fay has already caused major damage in the Caribbean with flooding in Hispaniola and Cuba and has been blamed for at least five deaths but that number could increase significantly as many people remain missing.
