Delta Airlines flight 250 made an emergency landing in England early Thursday morning after a smoky odor was detected in the cockpit. A Delta spokeswoman told CNN the plane, which was coming from New York City, landed at Manchester Airport just before 5 a.m.
“Delta Flight DL250, en route from New York-JFK to Athens, Greece, reported a smoky odor in the cockpit. As a precaution, the crew chose to divert to Manchester, UK. After landing, the customers deplaned normally and Delta maintenance personnel inspected the airplane to determine the cause of the incident,” said the spokesperson.
Engineers did not find any problems and declared the plane fit to fly. The delay caused the flight to be canceled because the crew had reached their maximum number of working hours. All 231 passengers were put in hotel rooms for the night. They are scheduled to fly to their original destination of Athens, Greece Friday on Delta flight 9858.
