In a recent DUI case, a woman of 22 years was arrested in California for killing her fellow passenger in an accident. Until the prosecutor checked some photographs of her on her Myspace page that had the defendant holding a glass of wine after the accident, he was willing to make a recommendation for probation. But these images and the comments submitted by her friends on the same revealed that instead of repenting for her mistake, she cared very little for the carnage she created. This lead to her receiving a 2 year imprisonment.
Real Dumb
In another case, a DUI attorney in southern California advised his client to delete any images or other information in her personal pages regarding the alcohol related accident she was charged with. She failed to do so and the DUI lawyer was supposedly blindsided right before pre-sentence through images shot post the wreck, in which the defendant was not only drinking but was also offering tequila shots. She was sentenced to 5 years imprisonment. Her lawyer was dumbfounded but helpless. There was simply nothing he could do.
The Truth
Although prosecutors are not wasting all their time in finding this sort of information on the internet, a quick search can lead to such information that can be damaging to the case. The same evidence being revealed these days is increasingly used to convince the jury and the judges that the defendant is not innocent. It is working to a blossoming extent. This is just an example of how ignorance on the part of the defendant can lead to devastating effects – for them. There are many more things that need to be taken care of when you are charged with a DUI case. Ultimately, it is good though that the truth did come out.
Critical Advice
Exercise caution if you are arrested for drunken driving and immediately seek the assistance of a DUI attorney. Only an experienced DUI lawyer can advise you on what to do and what not do right after the accident.
