Death Toll From China Typhoon Rises

The death toll in China from Typhoon Fanapi has risen to 55, according to the state-run Xinhua news agency. Fanapi hit parts of southern China Tuesday.

Heavy rains caused flooding and landslides in Guangdong and Fujian provinces. More than 4,200 homes and 48,700 hectares of crops were destroyed. Authorities say 42 people are still missing.

More than 1.26 million people have been affected by the disaster. Helicopters are being used to drop essentials to the victims.
