2008 Beijing Olympics Results: U.S. Baseball Team Advances to Medal Round
The U.S. baseball team advanced to the semifinals Tuesday in the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China.
After defeating Taiwan (Chinese Taipei), 4-2, the U.S. team earned a berth into the medal round. Dexter Fowler went 3-for-3 with a triple and an RBI double, and John Gall added a solo home run to help Team USA earn the win.
Brandon Knight pitched 6 1/3 innings and allowed two runs (one earned) on five hits to pick up the win. Team USA concludes round-robin action on Wednesday versus Japan at 7 a.m. EST. Cuba will play China on Tuesday at 10:30 p.m. in a game that will determine the No. 1 seed in the semifinals.
The semifinals begin on Thursday at 10:30 p.m. EST and will continue on Friday at 6 a.m. EST. The two semifinal losers will play at 10:30 p.m. on Friday to determine the bronze medal, and the two winners will meet at 6 a.m. Saturday to determine who wins the gold medal.
