A SpanAir flight taking off from Spain’s Madrid airport crashed shortly after takeoff, splintering into two pieces and killing at least 21.
Reports have indicated the plane’s left engine caught fire as it was lifting off and the pilot was trying to bring the plane down when it crashed into a field of heavy brush.
The Spanish government has listed the number of dead at 21 but other sources have put that number as high as 50 as rescue workers were still pulling the injured as well as dead from the plane.
