Seattle, Washington police say five people were shot Thursday at home in the Highland Park neighborhood. A woman, believed to be in her 30s, survived and told emergency responders, “My mom has gone crazy.”
Assistant Police Chief Jim Pugel says the shooter is believed to be a 59-year-old Asian female who is the mother of some of the victims. The woman apparently committed suicide after the shooting. The dead include two females believed to be in their late teens and one male believed to be in his 30s. The lone survivor is being treated at Harborview Medical Center.
Police Chief Pugel said a man believed to be the husband of the shooter broke through police lines while shots were being fired. When he got into the home two more shots were fired. He then ran out of the house and told police the woman had shot herself. Two handguns were found at the scene.
The shooting is under investigation. Pugel Asian language specialists are assisting with the language barrier.
