Russia Warns U.S. - Poland Defense Deal is Birth of Arms Race in Europe

Russia has responded to the recent U.S.-Poland defense shield deal with strong language and a promise to respond “and not only through diplomatic demarches” according to a foreign ministry statement.

Moscow has warned that the U.S. presence in Poland would birth a new arms race across Europe and Russia would take measures to ensure the balance of power did not shift to favor the United States.

The defense deal agreed to by the United States and Poland will place 10 interceptor rockets in strategic locations in Poland. Russia has argued that the defense shield was designed to weaken Moscow yet the U.S. has dismissed that allegation, instating the defense shield would serve to protect the U.S. and European countries from attacks launched by rogue states.
