Ichiro Suzuki Sets 200-Hit MLB Record

On Thursday, Ichiro Suzuki of the Seattle Mariners became the first player in MLB history with 10 consecutive 200-hit seasons. Pete Rose, the controversial but highly accomplished former MLB great, also has 10 straight 200-hit seasons to his name, but only Suzuki has accomplished this feat in consecutive seasons, and in his first 10 seasons to boot. Suzuki now ranks above such baseball legends as Ty Cobb, Lou Gehrig, and Willie Keeler, who have 9, 8, and 8 200-hit seasons to their names, respectively. With a single to the center field, this 2001 American League MVP also became the player with more 200-hit seasons than any other player in AL history. "After I accomplished 200 hits and I looked to the dugout, everyone was celebrating, everyone was very happy. They were showing congratulatory feelings," said Suzuki (through a translator). "That's when I finally felt I could express my feelings in a good way and say I'm happy for what I've achieved." And this is just one of many achievements that decorate the resume of this 10-time MLB All-Star. Since joining the Major Leagues back in 2001, Suzuki has won 9 Gold Glove Awards, 2 MLB batting titles, 6 MLB hitting titles, a Rookie of the Year title, and various other impressive honors.
