LaShawn Merritt wins the men's 400-meters as the U.S. sweeps the medals in the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China.
Merritt ran a 43.75, a full-second ahead of Jeremy Wariner, who ran a 44.74. David Neville gave the USA a bronze, running a 44.80.
Merrit's 43.75 is the fifth-fastest time in track history, behind Wariner's 43.45 in the 2007 World Championships, which is third all-time.
Merritt and Wariner have been rivals in the 400m since Wariner won the gold in the 2006 IAAF World Athletics Final. Merritt won bronze. Merritt then won the gold in the open 400m final in the 2008 USA Track and Field Championship as Wariner won silver.
