The U.S. women's basketball comes back to defeat Russia to advance to the gold medal game in the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing.
The U.S. team ended the first quarter down 16-13, but surged back to beat Russia, 67-52, in the women's basketball semifinals.
Diana Taurasi scored 21 points and Tina Thompson added 15 for the U.S., who will face either Australia or China for the gold medal. The USA team is looking to capture their fourth consecutive gold medal.
Prior to this game, the U.S. team was averaging 99.2 points per game and won by an average of 43.2 points. However, the Americans had a tough time with Russia early on as they led by just one point at halftime 33-32.
Their second half defense held Russia to just eight points in the third quarter and 12 in the fourth. Maria Stepanova led Russia with 14 points, while Ilona Korstin added 11 points and eight rebounds.
The women's basketball gold medal game will take place Saturday morning at 10:30 a.m. The bronze medal game will be at 8 a.m.
