The U.S. women's soccer team defends their gold medal after defeating Brazil, 1-0, in overtime in the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing.
Carli Lloyd scored in the first period of extra time at the 116th minute to end a deadlock. U.S.'s Hope Solo and Brazil's Barbara manned the goals to prevent either team from scoring prior to Lloyd's epic goal.
The U.S. has won the Olympic gold medal three times since the women's tournament became an Olympic event in 1996. Their only loss was in the gold medal game in the 2000 Olympic Games in which they lost to Norway.
Angela Hucles led the U.S. team with four goals during the Olympic soccer tournament, second to Brazil's Cristiane, who scored five goals.
Germany defeated Japan 2-0 to win the bronze medal game, which preceded the gold medal game. Fatmire Bajramaj scored a pair of second-half goals to help the Germans to victory.
