Bryan Clay became the first American to win the Olympic decathlon in 12 years, earning the gold medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics after finishing with 8,791 points in the two-day affair.
Clay was extremely consistent throughout the ten-event discipline, finishing in the top three of seven of the events.
Andrei Krauchanka of Belarus finished in second with 8,551 points to claim the silver medal while Cuba’s Leonel Suarez took bronze with 8,527 points.
