“Songs for Tibet” meant no music for China after the Apple iTunes music store was blocked following the rise in popularity of the pro-Tibet album.
While authorities in Beijing have not commented on the week-long lockdown many activists have blamed the government for the problem, saying the “Songs for Tibet” album was targeted by the government because it had been attracting numerous downloads.
Apple has not commented on the issue, only saying they were looking into the problem.
“Songs for Tibet” was released by the Art of Peace Foundation and features artists ranging from John Mayer, Alanis Morissette, Sting, Regina Spektor, Moby, Damien Rice and Dave Matthews to Suzanne Vega, Garbage, Rush, Jackson Browne and Ben Harper.
