Comments From Buffet and Bernanke Ignite Rally

A reversal in crude oil and commodity prices, a strengthening dollar, a rally in financials, and early upbeat comments from Warren Buffet on CNBC are working to push stocks higher in midday action. The pullback in crude is reigniting the month-long advance in airlines, while the cautiously upbeat remarks on inflation from Fed Chief Ben Bernanke are also aiding the mood among traders; however, volume is light. In other news, Lehman Brothers may be a takeover target, Gap topped the Street’s profit estimate, and Intuit matched. Treasuries are lower amid the rise in equities. Overseas, Europe is ending much higher.

At 11:54 a.m. ET, the Dow Jones Industrial Average is up 1.3%, and the S&P 500 Index is up 0.7%, and the Nasdaq Composite is 0.9% higher.

Crude oil is down $3.06 at $118.12 per barrel, wholesale gasoline is $0.10 lower at $2.94 per gallon, and gold is down $8.70 at $824.30 per ounce.
