Sen. Chet Edwards Vetted As Potential Barack Obama VP Candidate

Sen. Chet Edwards (D-TX) is reportedly on the short list of Democratic vice presidential candidates after being vetted recently.

Edwards' name has created a buzz as the dark house to be Sen. Barack Obama's vice president. The list of VP candidates includes Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine, Delaware Senator Joe Biden, Indiana Senator Evan Bayh and Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius.

Many believe that rival Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY) is a viable option as well. However, according to reports on Friday, Clinton has never been vetted by the Obama campaign.

According to his bio, Thomas Chester "Chet" Edwards represents Texas' 17th district, which encompasses Waco, Texas A&M University and Crawford, the town where President George W. Bush's Prairie Chapel Ranch is located. Prior to that, he represented Texas' 11th district from 1991-2005.

Edwards graduated from Texas A&M in 1974 with a degree in economics and received his MBA from Harvard Business School in 1981.

Obama is expected to reveal his vice president counterpart via text message as early as Wednesday. According to several news reports, aides say that Obama has already selected his running, but has waited some time to announce it.

Instead of breaking the news at a media conference or at the 2008 Democratic National Convention (DNC), which begins Monday in Denver, Obama will instead notify campaign supporters of his running mate through a text message first, a move that has never been done before in a political campaign.
