2008 Beijing Olympics Results: United States Beats Spain for Men’s Basketball Gold

For the first time since 2000 the United States men’s basketball team are Olympic champions after knocking off Spain 118-107 at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Dwyane Wade led the American squad with 27 points and Kobe Bryant added 20 while LeBron James finished with 14 points and 7 rebounds in the win. The U.S. relied heavily on their speed as they held a 16-2 advantage in fast-break points

Spain had big games from Pau Gasol who finished with 21 points and 6 rebounds and Rudy Fernandez who added 22 points but the U.S. was just too much, hitting 60 percent from the floor.

It looked as if Spain would play the game close to the end after using a 9-0 run to cut their deficit to 91-89 but the Americans regained the momentum and were able to hang on and win gold.
