2008 Beijing Olympics Results: Bakhyt Sarsekbayev Battles Way to Gold Medal in Men’s Boxing Welter Weight
Bakhyt Sarsekbayev took the gold medal in the men’s boxing welter weight division at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, beating Cuba’s Carlos Banteaux Suarez on points 17-9.
Sarsekbayev used a dominant second round to build an insurmountable lead, outpointing Suarez 7-1 to head into the third frame with a 7-2 advantage. The action continued in the third as the Kazakhstani put together a 7-5 round to put the fight away.
The gold medal was the second won by Kazakhstan at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
