Jets Victory, But Dolphin’s Offense Shines

The Sunday night Miami Dolphins vs. the Jets game was a nail-biter, with commendable performances on all sides.

The Dolphin’s last-second attempt to pass from the 5-yard line was intercepted by linebacker and returning Jets star Jason Taylor to win the game 31-23. Jet’s coach Rex Ryan celebrated by dumping the contents of a cooler of Gatorade over his star player Taylor, an ironic conclusion given that the Gatorade-cooler-dump was a victory ritual made famous by the Dolphin’s Bill Parcell teams in the 1980’s.

The game played out in a much more pass-happy fashion than many were expecting. Chad Henne and Brandon Marshal were particularly strong on passing connection and made the Dolphin’s offense game a stand-out. All up throughout the game, Henne hit Marshal ten times, including once for a touchdown and once to gain 40-yards on a ball downfield.

While their offense sparkled, they struggled to generate a complementary ground attack which left their game relying almost entirely on passing. Timing seemed to be the biggest issue for the Dolphins, with the entire team seeming slightly out of sync throughout the game; a point the Jets took advantage of to the full.

The Jets were able to exploit the weakness in defense of Dustin Keller who managed to score a touchdown and ripped through the Dolphin’s defense at 79 yards on four receptions within the game’s first quarter. While Ryan wanted to make the game win all about Taylor for his homecoming, the Jet’s victory was a pass-heavy team effort.
