N. Korea Blasts the U.S And S. Korea For Organizing Military Exercises

The US and South Korea kicked off joint anti-submarine war games on Monday, with North Korea responding with fire and fury.

A statement issued by the state-run North Korean Central News Agency said, "The warmongers blustered that they would conduct intensive training of the strategy, technique and procedures for countering someone's submarine infiltration, openly disclosing that the joint naval military exercises are targeted against the DPRK". The official name of North Korea is the Democratic People's Republic of Korea [DPRK].

Early this month, military exercises were postponed by Washington and Seoul because of an approaching typhoon. According to United States Forces Korea USFK, these military drills, which are due to go on until Friday, are "designed to send a clear message of deterrence to North Korea".

US officials have told that the drills being held off the Korean peninsula's western coast are in response to the attack on a South Korean warship by North Korea in March. A report published from South Korea had blamed North Korea in May for the sinking of the Cheonan warship using a torpedo, which resulted in the deaths of 46 sailors.

North Korea has denied any involvement in the sinking of the ship and claimed that the US and South Korea are using the incident as a justification to carry out the military exercises.
