President Obama on Monday
ridiculed the new set of policy prescriptions unveiled last week by House
Republican lawmakers.
Speaking at NBC’s show today morning Obama said, the governing plan released by House Republicans last week includes the same kinds of "irresponsible policies" that the GOP has advanced throughout his presidency."They propose $4 trillion worth of tax cuts, and $16 billion in spending cuts, and then they say we're going to somehow magically balance the budget," Obama said. "That's not a serious approach.
President Obama hits the campaign trail again this week with a new weapon: The Republicans' "Pledge to America." He slammed the GOP the new agenda as a giveaway to the wealthy and corporate interests. The pledge amounts to a "sharp difference" between Republicans and the administration, Obama asserted.
Polls indicate that Republicans have a chance to win back control of the U.S. House in the November elections. House Republicans said they developed the "Pledge to America" because of voters' worries about an unemployment rate near 10% and record levels of government spending and debt.
"While the President has exploded federal spending and ignored Americans who are asking, 'where are the jobs?,' the Pledge offers a plan to end the economic uncertainty and create jobs, as well as a concrete plan to rein in Washington's runaway spending spree," said Brendan Buck, a spokesman for the House members who put together the pledge."It’s a shame the president seems more interested in partisan attacks than working together to help create jobs.”
