The death toll resulting from a series of explosions at a chemical plant in Yizhou city in China’s Guangxi province has risen to 20 and left at least 60 injured.
According to reports the explosions began early Tuesday morning at the plant and continued for seven hours, ending about 1:00 p.m. Fires broke out and consumed nearly 108,000 square feet of the plat that produces chemicals for adhesives and paints.
More than 11,000 residents were evacuated from the area as poisonous gases that included sulfurated hydrogen and carbon monoxide poured from the plant. Despite the escape of gases the government has said there was no serious pollution to the air or water in the area.
