Sen. Joe Biden accepted the Democratic nomination for vice president during his speech at the Democratic National Convention on Wednesday.
Biden, who entered to the song "Ain't That America" by John Mellencamp, quickly accepted the nomination early into his speech.
Soon thereafter, Biden attacked Republican presidential candidate Sen. John McCain on issues ranging from taxes to alternative energy. "On the most important national security issues of our time, John McCain was wrong, and Barack Obama has been proven right," he said.
Biden explained the many stories of Americans during this economic crisis, saying that people are worried about heat, job raises, health care, the real estate crisis and college debt. "That's the America that George Bush has left us," said Biden. "And that's the America we'll continue to get if George -- excuse me, if John McCain is elected president of the United States of America. Freudian slip. Freudian slip."
Biden thanked his mother Catherine Biden, 91, and explained how his parents were instrumental in building his character. He shared one story to instill his mother's toughness into the DNC crowd. "My mom taught her children -- all the children who flocked to our house -- that you're defined by your sense of honor and you're redeemed by your loyalty," said Biden.
"And when I got knocked down by guys bigger than me -- and this is the God's truth -- she sent me back out and said, 'Bloody their nose so you can walk down the street the next day.' And that's what I did," said Biden as his mother nodded in agreement.
At the end of his speech, Obama walked on stage to join Biden in his first appearance at the Democratic National Convention. Obama greeted the audience, Biden and Biden's wife Jill, who he gave a kiss on the cheek to.
