College Football Thursday: Miami Hurricanes Host Charleston Southern in Season Opener

After finishing their 2007 campaign with a frustrating 5-7 record (2-6 in ACC action) the Miami Hurricanes will look to turn things around in 2008 as they host the Charleston Southern Buccaneers on Thursday night at 7:30 p.m.

The Buccaneers finished 5-6 in 2007 (1-3 in the Big South) and are looking to hang with the Hurricanes in their season opener. Last year Charleston Southern was blasted by then #19 Hawaii 66-10 and they will do everything they can to avoid that same fate against an established program.

For Miami, the thought of scoring 66 points in a game appears like fantasy as they totaled just 146 points in their eight ACC games last year, 37 of those points came in a win over Florida State.

The Hurricanes will be starting their season off with seven players suspended for the season opener, including starting quarterback Robert Marve. Freshman Jacory Harris will be taking the snaps on Thursday night in Marve’s place.

Coach Randy Shannon will do what he can to make sure his Hurricanes don’t look ahead to their match-up with the Florida Gators next week. They’ll then have to travel to College Station to take on a Texas A&M team that will be looking for revenge after the Hurricanes beat them 34-17 last year.

After starting the season 4-1 in 2007 Miami fell apart, dropping six of their final seven games, three of those by less than a touchdown.
