The South Carolina Gamecocks will be looking to bounce back from a disappointing 2007 season when they open the 2008 college football campaign on Thursday night hosting the N.C. State Wolfpack at 8:00 p.m. Steve Spurrier had South Carolina rolling last year, opening at 6-1 with big wins over the Georgia Bulldogs and Kentucky Wildcats but a 17-6 loss at home to Vanderbilt started a five game slide and they finished 6-6.
Now the Gamecocks will be looking to get back on track with a big SEC/ACC battle as the Wolfpack head into Columbia. South Carolina can’t afford to overlook N.C. State as the Wolfpack hold a four game winning streak over the Gamecocks and would like nothing more than extending it to five.
South Carolina knows they can’t look past N.C. State but they will certainly be thinking about next week as they get the chance to face Vanderbilt in Nashville. South Carolina was ranked #6 when they fell to the Commodores last year. They’ll then be on the other side of the pay-back game when they host the Georgia Bulldogs in week three.
